As an avid philanthropist, Donald Phillips has a deep passion for the community and for increasing the quality of life for its citizens.
To date, Phillips has received three gubernatorial appointments and serves on multiple influential legislative policy committees. In June 2007, he was appointed by Governor Charlie Crist to serve as a Board Member on the Tampa-Hillsborough County Expressway Authority (THEA) which he serves as Vice-Chairman. His experience and familiarity with the surrounding communities made him the best choice for the $40-million-a-year THEA, which owns and operates the Selmon Crosstown Expressway.
Don has also served as an alternate delegate to the 2008 Republican National Convention and as State Finance Co-Chair on Senator John McCain’s Presidential Campaign. He is currently a Board Member of The U.S. Africa Free Enterprise Education Foundation.
Additionally, he was appointed board member to Enterprise Florida (e-Florida) by Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, Larry Cretul. In June 2009, he was reappointed to the board by Governor Crist and asked to serve on the Legislative Policy Commission, a liaison group which collaborates with the state legislature and cabinets to review and promote initiatives fostering both competitiveness and effectiveness. He works closely with this board in the continued pursuit of international trade, visiting regularly with his counterparts in Costa Rica and Panama, among others, to source and promote opportunities for the small businesses of the State of Florida.
Most recently, Don was appointed one of five board members for the Transportation and Expressway Authority Membership of Florida (TEAMFL), an association representing the five expressway authorities of Florida. At this post he shares innovative ideas for toll road operations, including acquisition, financing, and marketing.
Don is a frequent supporter of numerous Bay-area non-profit organizations including the American Cancer Society, Florida Sheriff’s Association, Voices for Children, Ryan Nece Foundation, Pediatric Cancer Center, Boy Scouts of America, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Research Center, Pepin Heart Hospital and American Red Cross.
